PC box culverts are designed with prestressed concrete structures (using PC steel bars for transverse reinforcement) for the top slab and bottom slab, which are directly affected by variable loads (live loads). This design eliminates the occurrence of cracks, a common drawback of reinforced concrete products, and also enhances resistance to impact and repeated loads.
